Cub Scouting Fun Filled Weekend

This past weekend we had a fun packed time involving Nature Centers, Rock Climbing and Roses! Saturday Brendan and I headed out the Rio Grande Nature Center were the boys got to see Owls and birds of prey. We hiked down to the river and boys got to do some weather experiments, the weather was slightly warm, but the boys had fun looking for frogs and climbing trees.

My Mothers day was nice and my gift from my boys and my hubby was AWESOME. I got a couple of rose bushes, which was really nice. I have never had my own roses to grow before, now there is a funny side to this because when it comes to growing plants I have a pretty bad track record, hubby thought that it would be really nice if I could have roses all the time, so here's hoping I can!

Then my Mothers Day was rounded off with a trip to the new indoor rock climbing gym (not exactly a Mothers Day activity, but it was fun and I even did some climbing!) Our Cub Scout Pack had arranged a trip to the new indoor rock climbing gym, some of the boys had climbed before, but Brendan and Aaron had not. Aaron tried it twice but was a little scared. Once Brendan realized that he couldn't fall because Daddy was belaying him, our spider monkey made it all the way to the top!

Our weekend was busy, fun and rewarding. I am one lucky Mom and wife! I hope all the Moms out there had a great Mothers Day

Houston we have a problem............

Our Saturday morning was filled with winding rubber bands and rocket malfunctions! Yesterday was our Space Derby with Cub Scouts, each Den had launch times allocated and Brendan's rocket which had been made the night before (don't ask) was a camouflage themed rocket.

The prize winning rocket!

We helped set up and realized that this was going to be one of those activities that involved a lot of fixing and re-do races. Only 3 of Brendan's Wolf Den turned up and the rockets were paired off and wound up! The boys were really excited and got into the spirit of racing, and Brendan's rocket got first place, not quite sure who was more chuffed Daddy or Brendan!

I made 150 of these!

This Saturday is the annual Blue and Gold Banquet for Cub Scouts. For those that read this that haven't a clue what I am talking about, every year in Feb the Cub Scouts have an awards banquet were the boys get there rank badge that they have been working towards and the older boys cross over into Boy Scouts. The theme every year is different and it is a great couple of hours of fun and friendship. This year the theme is American ABC's, and the pack we are with now sends out invitations for the event. So the crafty chick that I am came up with the above invitations. It was one of those deals were I went yeah I will do the invitations, sure 150 no problem! When I came up with the shaped idea, the fact that I would have to cut out 150 really didn't cross my mind, until I started, by about the 50th one I was thinking why did I come up with this idea! But I got all 150 done and they were greatly received.
I did all the graphics on my computer and I was able to get 2 to one piece of card, the only hard think was the cutting out!

Balloons!

This weekend was the Friends & Lovers Balloon Rally here in Rio Rancho, and my son's Cub Scout Pack where fundraising for their Scout Accounts selling coffee, hot chocolate and donuts to the Balloon teams, and anyone else who was brave enough to get up at the crack of dawn! At 4:30am when the alarm went off this morning to be honest my first instinct was to switch it off and go back to sleep. But we had signed up to help and trying not to wake everyone else, Brendan and I headed out. I had been to the area the day before, but it was sure different first thing in the morning when it was still dark. It was very cold this morning, but the parents, leaders and scouts that where there soon got to setting up waiting for the crowds wanting there hot cup of coffee, or hot chocolate. Oh and there was plenty of people, the marquee was packed!

The Weather report was issued just before 8am and within a minute the marquee emptied and Brendan and I ventured outside to watch as the Balloon Teams set too inflating and heading off in the sky's above.

For Brendan and I it was the first time we had ever been this close to see them actually inflate the hot air balloons and watch them take off. It was really exciting, plus Brendan got to go around to the different teams and collect the Balloon trading cards. Despite the cold, and the sand, after watching the sky fill with all the different balloons, I am glad I got up this morning!

All good intentions and already I am a few days behind

Well I am off to an awesome start......................................................

I had all good intentions of at least every day up dating my blog, and I have already fallen behind. But lets see, internet went down, drama at my son's bus stop, and managed to whack my eldest tonight with the car door giving him a bloody nose and fat lip! Oh and cub scouts in between that, on top of helping eldest son with 2nd Grade Homework, cause he had left his folder at school on Tuesday and he had to play catch up.

And the week is not over..........................................

But my fleece fabric arrived for the 2 Arizona Cardinals Blankets I have to make, and I have received more inquires about my blankets, which I am so excited about. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
